Graded exposure — climbing toward the thing, on purpose

There are two ways to face a thing you're scared of. One is to grit your teeth, throw yourself at the hardest version of it, hope adrenaline carries you through, and pray you don't have to do it again for a year. That's the dominant cultural script and it almost never works for social anxiety. Either you fail spectacularly and feel worse, or you white-knuckle through it once and never repeat — so nothing actually changes underneath.

The other way is graded exposure. Break the feared situation into small climbable steps, do them in order, repeat each until it stops being scary, then move up. Boring on paper. Reliable in practice.
